Infants

The infant program provides care for young children up to 18 months of age. The very youngest children—from six weeks to 12 months—are provided individualized care with a primary caregiver. Parents work with their child’s primary caregiver to develop a daily schedule that best fits their child’s needs. The assigned primary caregiver provides the majority of the child’s daily care. The caregivers focus on respect for each child, making sure that the infant is involved in his or her own care.

At about 12 months of age, the child moves towards a group care schedule. The child’s sleeping and feeding routines begin to develop with similarities to other children of the same age. Group schedules begin to develop with several children, eating together and napping at the same time.

All parents in the infant program are provided daily written reports that reflect the child’s day. Specific information is given on diapering, eating, and how the child’s day went. Parents are encouraged to talk with their child’s caregivers at the beginning and the end of each day.

Toddlers I (1 to 2 years)

Our toddler option program provides care to children ages 18 months to 30 months. Our goal is for each toddler to be in an atmosphere where they feel safe and secure, so that they can develop independence and social competence. Our teachers use a modified high/scope schedule for their curriculum that is developmentally age-appropriate with an emphasis on sensory activities.

Toilet training usually takes place between two to three years of age for each child. When a child seems to be ready for this experience, the teachers and parents work together as a team to begin the process with the child.

Toddlers are encouraged to safely explore and develop curiosity, sensory, and motor skills through age-appropriate toys in a stimulating environment.

Toddlers II (2 to 3 years)

The two-year-old program continues to meet the needs of the rapidly growing child. Two year olds are encouraged to develop their language through interactive communication and activities. Daily activities are planned, which may include story time, learning games, and independent choice activities. All activities in this program are designed to accommodate the relatively short attention span and developmental needs of two year olds.

Preschool (3 to 4 years)

A child in this phase is now becoming more self-sufficient. Significant gains in dressing/undressing, washing/drying hands, brushing teeth, and even putting on shoes are occurring. Our trained staff will aid your child in listening and language development by providing simple instructions, asking questions, providing choices, using descriptive language, and by modeling correct grammar and verb tenses.

Your child is also developing a more social awareness of learning to share, desiring to help others, expressing their needs more, and understanding acceptable forms of behavior.

Literacy and math readiness skills are practiced in our program. At Beulah Early Learning Center as we give children opportunities to recognize letters, develop phonemic awareness, and explore books and tactile letters. Teachers will read to your child, sing, recite nursery rhymes and poetry—all beginning steps to literacy development. The children are also given opportunities to build with blocks, differentiate between shapes and sizes, practice with puzzles, colors, sorting, and counting—all beginning steps to math readiness. Plenty of manipulative material will be located around the classroom for your child to explore and develop these skills. These are learning essentials which go beyond basic child care or day care.

As a child’s body grows and develops, their fine motor skills will begin to improve. Your child will pridefully bring home art work that they have created. They will begin to draw and/or color, which are beginning stages to writing. They will also explore with age appropriate and safe scissors to begin the steps to cutting.

Many opportunities to develop gross motor activities will be offered, including music and movement, climbing, running, jumping, throwing, and swinging. The children will enjoy playing on the playground especially designed for these types of activities, and our gross motor room for those rainy or inclement weather days.

As always, snacks, bathroom and hand-washing opportunities, and rest time are provided. Children will begin to understand and anticipate the daily routine of the classroom and look forward to returning each day.

Before/After School Programs

The before school program opens at 6:30am and ends at the beginning of the school day, each day that school is in session. Parents may drop off their child anytime after the program opens. For the child’s safety, parents are required to sign their child into the before school program each morning. We are not responsible for children who are dropped off outside. Furthermore, children are not allowed to ride the early morning bus to the program. The children will be provided with a cubby to store their belongings each morning until they leave the Center to go to their school.

In general, the morning schedule is as follows. Between 6:30am and 7:45am, the children will be participating in activities in the daycare center cafeteria; breakfast, supervised homework completion, arts and crafts, quiet games, reading corner, and computer lab. At approximately 7:50am, we will start cleaning up the room, and the children will get ready to go to their school. Children who will be eating breakfast at their school will be dismissed with a staff member to be dropped off at their school. The rest of children will be transported to their school at 8:15am.

After school activities include a variety of indoor and outdoor play (weather permitting). Outside play may consist of organized sports and activities or just free play on the playground structure, drawing with sidewalk chalk, jump roping, etc. We have a wide range of outdoor equipment your child can play with. Indoor play consists of a large variety of activities, such as arts and crafts, games, books

to read, coloring and drawing, and a large variety of totes full of age-appropriate toys and building materials. There is also an air hockey table in the room available for the children to play and a few other tabletop games, such as marble football, bowling, soccer, bumper puck, pool, and shuffleboard as well. The county library is usually available as well, if needed. A variety of games are played outside, such as dodgeball, kickball, floor hockey, knockout, crab soccer, soccer, handball, etc.

Each parent will have their own mail folder in the room. Please check your parent folders on a weekly basis for important notices and weekly bills. They are located on the table by the sign in/out sheets near the entrance to the cafeteria. There is also a drop-in box next to the folders for payments or suggestions.
